- Plate Color: White
- Vehicle Type: Private Vehicles (Cars, SUV, Motorcycles, etc.)
- Vehicle Use: Personal Use Only.
The private vehicles have the white background plate with black fonts used for writing the plate number. If you see any vehicle with a white number plate, it means it is a private vehicle that is made for personal use only. Such a vehicle cannot be used for public utility, commercial, construction or any other purpose.

- Plate Color: Yellow
- Vehicle Type: Public Utility Vehicles (Bus, Taxi, UV Van, etc.) Commercial Vehicles.
- Vehicle Use: To carry passengers and charge fare for public transport service. To carry goods from one place to another for delivery service.
The public utility vehicles have yellow background number plates in the Philippines. It can be a taxi or a UV express van or a public transport bus. The LTO provides yellow plate to authorize the vehicles to operate for carrying passengers and charge fares from them.

- Vehicle Type: Government Vehicles (Cars, SUV, etc.) owned by Government Agencies.
- Vehicle Use: These vehicles can be operated by government officials only.
The government owned/authorized vehicles have green background number plates. Such vehicles are owned by government agencies and operated by government officials only. The government vehicles can be used for government work purposes only and not for personal or commercial use.

- Plate Color: Blue
- Vehicle Type: Diplomatic Vehicles (Special Four-Wheeler Vehicles)
- Vehicle Use: Can be used for traveling by Diplomats, Embassies Officials and Foreign Officials only.
The diplomatic vehicles have blue background plates with unique numbering system. Such vehicles are owned by Diplomats and Foreign Official Personnel. The authorized diplomats can use these vehicles for their personal/professional traveling purposes as per their rights.

- Plate Color: Red
- Vehicle Type: Any Vehicle on Temporary Plate
- Vehicle Use: It can be a private vehicle or any other vehicle waiting for the permanent number plate.
When you buy a new vehicle, it does not come with a number plate. The vehicle dealer or LTO provides a temporary plate which is red color plate to indicate that the vehicle owner has applied for registration and it is under process. When the plates are ready, the LTO informs the owner and they will replace the red color plate with the permanent number plate (white or other color as per LTO Rules).

- Vehicle Type: Old Registered Vehicles (private vehicles)
- Vehicle Use: Can be operated for personal use only.
